ROLE OF THE LAND REGISTRY
The Land Registry functions as the repository for all transactions relating to land in Barbados and facilitates access to these transactions through a rapid, secure and efficient information system. The services provided by the Land Registry include searching by the legal fraternity and their staff as well as the general public. There is also the provision of certified copies of digitally stored documents.
The Land Registry emerged out of the Supreme Court Registration Department in 1988. Since that time the Registrar was vested with certain judicial and quasi-judicial powers to oversee the proper functioning of a new system of land administration.
